Holiday Closings

Hands On! is closed New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day every year.  Hands On! may also close for special fundraisers or other scheduled events.  Please check our events calendar for additional information on planned closures.

Spice it Up! Discovery Lab Program

Celebrate National Chemistry Week 2025 with this year’s zesty theme, “The Hidden Life of Spices”!  Dive into the flavorful world of kitchen chemistry and uncover the secrets behind the spices you know and love.  From sizzling cinnamon to punchy pepper, it’s a tasty twist on science you won’t want to miss!  FREE with paid general admission (*This program contains food allergens such as wheat, nuts, and a variety of spices including cinnamon, black pepper, mustard, onion, garlic, etc.)

 

Home School Day – October 14th, 2025
Oct 14 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Join us for this extra special discount day especially for our loyal home school visitors!  Come together to network, explore, play, and learn about upcoming home school workshops at HandsOn!

To receive the discounted Home School Day rate of $8 per person for general admission, please bring your photo ID and one of the accepted forms of home school identification listed in the “Discounts & Coupons” section on the Plan Your Visit page of our website.

Additional activities for Homeschool Day include:

 

  • National Fossil Day Preview Experience beginning at 11am
    • Activities include our “Fossil or Fake?” game, picking for real microfossils (must remain on site), and paster casting a replica fossil.
    • Workshop spaces are limited, and pre-reservations are highly encouraged.
    • Early Bird prices (must be reserved online at least 1 week prior to event)
      • $5 per workshop attendee for Hands On! members.
      • $7 per workshop attendee for non-members.
    • Otherwise, workshop tickets may be available to purchase at the Front Desk
      • $7 per workshop attendee for Hands On! members.
      • $9 per workshop attendee for non-members.
    • Availability is limited and cannot be guaranteed.

National Fossil Day Pop-In Family Workshop
Oct 15 @ 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Stop by any time between 1:30pm-4:30pm (while supplies last) for your chance to examine real fossils on National Fossil Day!  Start with a “picking” activity featuring fossil-rich sediment from Aurora, North Carolina*, play our “Fossil or Fake?” game, and even create your own fossil replica to take home with you.  Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

National Fossil Day Family Pop-in Workshop prices:
