On the morning of May 18, 1980, a series of earthquakes preceded a massive eruption of Mount St. Helens, a volcanic mountain in Washington state.

In honor of this historic geologic event, we’re exploring the science behind some of Earth’s most extreme natural phenomena.  Join us as we create a model volcanic eruption, engineer and test an earthquake-proof tower, and discover how to be better prepared for emergencies and natural disasters.
